GW: Track Concept

Lullaby, The Cure

Concept: The nightmares of the man are personified as the lead singer sings the track

Location: In a bedroom, which is Victorian goth in décor and is cluttered yet bare and dirty.

Narrative: Robert Smith (lead) is lying in bed, plagued by nightmares. The' Spider man' watches, approaches and attacks the lead singer, enclosing him and at one point taking him into a nightmare state

Performance: The lead singer sings the song, there is a band but they are not central and play irregular instruments (marching band) as part of the nightmarish scene.

Characters: Robert Smith, The Spider man (Smith with more makeup) and the creepy band figures.

Costume: Pyjamas, white with greyish stripes and marching band wear. The characters all wear makeup which looks slightly deathly, Smith wears his trademark eyeliner and red lipstick, with backcombed hair.

Props: Bed and bedding, instruments.

Lighting: Low key at some points, eg the nightmare sequence where he is engulfed, and fairly bright.

Colour: Grey tone to the video, as is common with goth rock.

Post-Production: Effects were pro-filmic. It is edited with dissolves and cuts between the lead and the antagonist.

Camera: Many close ups on the lead singers reaction to the nightmare. A pov was used to create a shot where the Spider Man goes into the band member's mouth. There were a series of cutaway shots to webs and spiders.

  1. Some good ideas here. Definitely some in there that we could think about using in our video such as using make-up and costume to convey a mood or shape the narrative.
